Cannabis is not a taboo in skincare and here’s why!
How freaky is it that a plant that is known to make one lose their mental sense is also a plant that has therapeutic effects? We’re talking about the famous cannabis plants. However, this is twisted multiple times to promote the consumption of cannabis. We're going to state facts today and explain how the plant entirely doesn’t have therapeutic effects but is rather just one compound that is a powerful antioxidant and can be a blessing for your skin.
1.What is CBD?
CBD is Cannabidiol, a compound derived from a plant called Cannabis sativa. This group of plants also includes some popular plants like marijuana and hemp. Hence, Hemp oil becomes an excellent source of CBD. Don’t worry, CBD won’t make you high. It’s a compound called Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) which is psychotropic. Since it is derived from Cannabis, there are sources with traces of THC but not enough to make you high. Hemp oil is considered to have next to zero traces of THC but a high amount of CBD, making it the perfect choice to get the benefits of CBD. Speaking of which, CBD is in rage for benefits as follows:
- Highly anti-inflammatory
- Fights free radical damage since its a powerful antioxidant
- Soothes rosacea, eczema, etc
- Regulates oil production to reduce breakouts
2.How to include it in your skincare routine?
Pretty easy to layer CBD into your skincare routine. The best part is it has no side effects if you take CBD from a certified brand. Given the popularity of CBD, there are sources of CBD that may have more traces of THC which defies the purpose of using CBD. Hence, use CBD oil only from a verified source or you can even reach out to the brand and understand where they source the CBD from. When it comes to layering CBD, you can go with your routine method of layering- thinnest to the thickest. It can also go well with topical steroids which your dermatologists may prescribe in case of inflammation. For those who don’t want to opt for steroids to treat inflammation, CBD is the way for you.
Another plus point is CBD can be applied on all skin types and in AM- PM.
Oil on the face always seems to be a cautionary tale but that’s not the case with CBD oil and we say yes to it!
